Shahid:Kaminey was a huge risk

Shahid Kapoor’s performance has been praised by one and all and the handsome actor is happy that his risk has paid off well.
Shahid says, “The fact is that mass as well as niche audiences have given a thumbs up to a subject and a genre that were never explored before. This was a very huge film for me and hence a big litmus test as well. It was such a huge risk and my fortune could have swung either way. I’m so happy that it paid off eventually.”
“Even when I was on the verge of signing ‘Kaminey’, people discouraged me. Since on paper itself it sounded such a different film, I was advised that I should follow a conventional route and do more love stories.
“People felt that I was on a wrong path by signing on something experimental when I should have rather consolidated my image as a lover boy. I am glad I took a firm stand though because I sincerely believe that audiences today want a change.”
Yes!We do want a change, and what better than you Shahid.

Preity Zinta’s hot item number

Bubbly actress Preity Zinta is making her comeback in commercial cinema with a dhamakedar item number in Salman Khan’s ‘Main Aur Mrs Khanna’. The clipping of the song was out and Preity was looking extremely gorgeous in red ghagra-choli. The dance number resemblance very much to ‘Kajra Re’ by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
A source said, ''Preity was specially made to travel to Dubai for a single day to shoot for the song happening. The song is a delight to watch and has your foot tapping. The production team had to spend a fortune on that single day outdoor shoot for Preity as Director Prem Soni required a huge open air theatre for the song which they managed to get in Dubai.''
The source further added, ''When Preity and director Prem Soni were thinking who could choreograph the song, they could only think of one person that time and it was Farah Khan. Preity was very keen that Farah choreographed the song and Prem Soni always wanted to work with Farah Khan. As Farah agreed to choreograph the song both Priety and Prem Soni were happy and felt very lucky''.
A unit member said, ''Preity had a ten day rehearsal with Farah khan before she started shooting the song. Everyday she would rehearse for 3 hours. She also was on a special diet and hardcore workout and yoga and swimming sessions to be in shape for the song".
'Main Aur Mrs Khanna' stars Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the pivotal role.

Unfortunately, I had become so ill prior to that I forgot to take any eye medication. I already had a severe bout of food poisoning and was bedridden for a couple of days. I became so weak that they had to call a local doctor."
Bipasha Basu caught up with eye allergy as a result of some flowers which was gifted to her by her yoga teacher when she was not keeping well due to food poisoning. Bips narrated the incident, "I was so thrilled to receive the bouquet that I held them close to my face to smell them and then wham! My eyes swelled up and shut tight the next day. Katrina’s lips go plump

BEFORE AFTER
After returning from a vacation in Italy, media is quite surprised that Katrina Kaif looks different now, her lips are more plump than usual.
A source says, “Katrina has always wanted shapelier lips. She recently returned from a long holiday – almost three weeks. During her trip to the USA for the Independence Day parade in Houston and Chicago, everyone first noticed the marked change in her appearance. Her lips were still puffy at the time, but now the swelling has vanished.”
However Katrina denies the rumor, she says, “It’s not true. I have not had any work done on my lips and to say that is ridiculous.”
A close friend of Katrina says, “She can’t afford to take any medication right now as she’s on a very strong medication for her skin. It is called Roaccutane and she’s under treatment for it under Dr Neena , a cosmetologist from Mumbai, for the last six months and will be under medication for six months more. The medicine is so strong that Katrina can’t take any other medicine during this time and in fact, because Roaccutane is so harsh it gives rise to swollen, dry and chapped lips – which gives the impression as if she has done something to her lips.”
Roaccutane is used to treat acute acne, and it’s side effects are swollen lips.
However I personally found no difference in the shape of her lips. What about you folks?

Son excited for Akki’s Blue

Akshay Kumar’s son Aarav is quite excited about his dad’s upcoming flick Blue, where Akki plays a champion swimmer who is always underwater hunting for treasure.
A source says, “Akshay knows Aarav will be kicked by the idea of his dad playing a champion swimmer and that too named Aarav after his son. In Aarav’s eyes, Akshay is the true hero. To watch his dad play a man of dubious morals and grey aspirations would be a new experience for Aarav.”
Director of Blue, Anthony talking about Akki’s screen name in Blue says, “It’s true, Akshay plays a man who thinks getting what he wants is more important than how you get there. I wrote the character for Akshay. He was to be called Akshay Malhotra. But then when I saw that Akshay had tattooed his son’s name on his back I decided to change the character’s name to Aarav.”
Akshay Kumar’s last negative role was in Khiladi 420.

Shahid saves Rakhi Sawant’s life

Trash talk Queen Miss. Sawant is mulling over Shahid Kapoor in her upcoming flick Dil Bole Hadippa. The reason behind all the hulla-gulla is that Shahid had saved her life during the shoot of a song sequence Discowale Kishko…
In an interview Rakhi stated, “Today I’m alive, and that is just because of Shahid. I was about to meet with a fatal accident when he came to my rescue.”
Elaborating on the incident she chirps, “I was standing near a light stand after the shoot of a dance sequence, when suddenly Shahid sipping his coffee came up to me. He just asked me to move aside and secured the light stand; I never noticed, but the stand was rickety and that light was almost dropping down on me, but thank god Shahid came in at the right time for my rescue.”
“He is a really nice guy and it was fun to work with him. I also enjoyed working with a big star like Rani Mukherjee, and also told her that I am a big fan of her,” she concludes.
Well we wonder with Rakhi so charmed by her new prince charming, what happens to the ‘chosen one’ Elesh.

Wake Up Sid should cross the boundaries of multiplex audiences:

Promos of ‘Wake Up Sid’ have made an instant impression and urban audiences have already been sold to the concept, mood, treatment and the flavor of this Karan Johar production. While it is pretty much clear that with ‘Wake Up Sid’, Bollywood would be seeing Dharma Productions’ first quintessential multiplex film, one wonders whether Karan Johar, director Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir Kapoor are also targeting single screens and smaller cities and towns for the film to make a wider impression.
“See, time and again, we kind of tend to make a generalization and divide, that so and so film is only for multiplexes or for that matter single screen audiences. Yes, definitely the film is about the angst of urban youngsters, is reflective of their lifestyle and of course comes with associated demography perspective as well. But then that’s the world of Sid, so we have to present it that way. We have to show that in the promos and we can’t fool the audiences, right”, says Karan Johar who allowed Ayan Mukerjee a free hand in making the film.
As per Karan, the film is not just about the lead protagonist Sid but also his parents.
“The film also talks about the kind of dilemma that parents go through. They have a son at home who is almost grown up and neither can they take all decisions on his behalf nor can they allow him to be let loose. This brings in a quite a lot of emotional energy in the narrative of ‘Wake Up Sid’ as both sides of the stories are heard,” details Karan.
Coming back to the original question around the film being targeted at multiplex audiences, Karan agrees that ‘Wake Up Sid’ is being perceived as a quintessential multiplex film but in the meanwhile is also hoping that it goes beyond that as well.
“I am not just hoping but also quite positive that the film would cross the boundaries of multiplexes audiences”, he says, “The film has all the right ingredients of connecting with larger audiences. Yes, the visual content is such that ‘Wake Up Sid’ is being perceived as a multiplex film but the subject and the treatment is so strong that it would cut across all segments of audiences. All of us have been a Sid once in our growing up years and it won’t be difficult to see a part of us in story which is told through this film.”
Didn’t he ever contemplate having a non-English or a different title than ‘Wake Up Sid’?
Karan nods in agreement, “Yes, we did try to think of a title; something which could perhaps cater to a wider perspective. But then eventually ‘Wake Up Sid’ resonated with the world of Sid most and we stuck to it. We have it out in open now and it has to be seen how much it eventually manages to entice audiences once the film releases in theaters.”

Sallu doesn’t like Kat’s small skirts

A couple of months ago we bought to you a news, where a friend of Katrina complained that Salman never watches any of Kat’s movies while she watches his every movie.
So when Salman was asked about the same in a recent interview, Salman says, “Yes I don’t. Once I saw she was wearing a really small skirt and I didn’t like it. But then you have to sometimes chill and let it go. And I don’t have a choice, and it’s better to stay away from those things. I mean I see the promos and get an idea of what is going to be in the film, so it’s better to stay away from that.”
Quiz him, whether he advises Katrina on her career, she says, “No, she’s a grown up girl. Initially I did, but after that you have to let them go. She’s good at making her own decision about choosing films and what to do. Earlier she used ask me check a couple of her scenes because of her dubbing but now I don’t do that. I don’t even go to any of her sets because there was this whole reputation that I land up on my girlfriend’s sets. I’ve been labelled and aggressive boyfriend, so I now I stay away from all that stuff.”
Well Salman will definitely watch Katrina’s upcoming flick Rajniti, I am sure, ‘coz she will be clad in crisp cotton sarees througout the movie.

Salman doesn’t like Katrina in sexy attire

Salman Khan might be very funny and lively person but when it comes to girlfriend Katrina Kaif, he is damn serious. He is a possessive boyfriend and avoids Katrina Kaif’s film for a simple reason because she wears sexy and small skirts in films.
Salman said that he once watched Katrina’s film and she was wearing a short skirt which he did not like and from then he has stopped watching her films. He even knows that he cannot every time interfere on her matter as it is her choice and the film demand. He said that he can make out from the film promo which one of her film to watch and which not. If he feels that it is liable to watch, he goes for it otherwise let it go.
Salman even revealed that Katrina Kaif used to ask him to check her dialogue during dubbing but now he has stopped doing so because he doesn’t want to be typecast as a violent boyfriend who every time interferes into girlfriend’s work. He added that earlier he used to guide Katrina regarding film selection but he has stopped now as she is grown up and can make her own decision.

`Wake Up Sid` not about handsome guy-plain Jane: Director

Mumbai: Debutant director Ayaan Mukherjee admits his `Wake Up Sid` is about a younger man dating an older woman but he is appalled by rumours that it revolves around a handsome guy and a not-so-good looking girl.
"All I can tell you is that this marketing pitch didn`t come from me or Karan (Johar). You think I`d dare to call my heroine, who I think is awesome, not good-looking?" Mukherjee asked angrily.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma, the romantic comedy is produced by Karan Johar and is scheduled for release Oct 2.
"It came from a Facebook `Wake Up Sid` fan club started on the website. Someone just saw Ranbir and Konkona together and decided to draw their own conclusions...To me Konkona is at the moment the most gorgeous woman I`ve met. In fact, my last shot was with her and I just couldn`t stop gawking," Mukherjee, who is actress Kajol`s cousin, told reporters.
So is "Wake Up Sid" about an older woman in love with a younger man?
"Yes, Konkona`s character Ayesha is a few years older than the guy. But it`s not `Summer Of 42`, please! Nor is the age difference concealed here as it was between Ranbir and Bipasha in `Bachna Ae Haseeno`. What happened was that we wrote in the age difference because I wanted only these two to be in my film.
"When I saw Ranbir in `Saawariya`, I knew this was my Sid. He was young, energetic and hungry to seize life. He was like me. You`ve to admit Ranbir and Konkona together are a pair that no one would imagine. I liked that challenge. And I also saw Konkona has been around in the industry longer than Ranbir. So I conveniently turned the character into a slightly older woman," Mukherjee said.
Ranbir`s dad Rishi Kapoor has done a very fine film about falling in love with an older woman called "Doosra Aadmi" where Raakhee Gulzar played the unusual love interest.
So doesn`t he plan to work with cousin Kajol?
"The thought didn`t strike me for my first film. I wrote `Wake Up Sid` as this young new-age `Dil Chahta Hai`. It`s about today`s youngsters. Kajol? Yeah. Maybe in my next film... if I`m allowed to make another film," he said.
At the moment Mukherjee is worried about how the audience would take to the title.
"But it had to be `Wake Up Sid`. It`s a wake-up call for this rather laidback hero who meets an unusual woman. It`s a real film with no lip-sync songs," he said.
The director was so sad on completion of his film that he got dead drunk.
"I`m very sad that it has ended. Now everyone will move away. It`s a heartbreaking process. I don`t know how Karan goes through it over and over again," Mukherjee said.

Shahid Kapoor’s jig throws male security guards in tizzy!

It was an evening to remember for the winners and audience present at the 12th Annual Rajiv Gandhi awards, and making it more memorable was newly crowned superstar Shahid Kapoor.
Shahid Kapoor broke into an impromptus jig with his co-star Priyanka Chopra when she came down from the stage at the Dhan Ta Nen song from their recent super hit film Kaminey. Though this was just for a few seconds, the girls in the crowd descended on to the front row, giving a tizzy to the all male security guards, who were unable to handle the mobbing girls.
Mobbing is usually expected to be led by male fans, but with Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Charlie’ avatar gaining instant popularity with the girls, it’s them who end up leading the mobs. With women security usually missing at events it’s been left to his manager and publicist (both girls) to manage the unruly female attention.

Rani Mukherji’s passion for perfecting her cricketing skills

It’s now known by all that Rani Mukerji plays the role of a male cricketer in Dil Bole Hadippa. But not many are aware about Rani’s aim for perfecting the art of playing the game of cricket. It is learnt that she trained really hard for the game before beginning work on the film.
Our unit source revealed, “Rani actually started practicing the game a good six months before the film even went on the floors. The person who trained Rani to master the game is a well-known Indian cricket player, but her name is being kept under wraps since she doesn’t want people to know about her involvement in the film. The coach monitored Rani throughout her practice, and made sure that she perfected her shots well. Rani has been practicing the game wherever she traveled and has practiced on the grounds in Delhi and Punjab too.”
Well, whether Rani mastered her fours and sixes will be known only after the film releases. But for now, Rani’s current svelte figure is testimony enough that she has run across the pitch!
The film also stars Shahid Kapoor and Anupam Kher, with special appearances by Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra.

Salman likes simple girls

Salman Khan is a no nonsense guy and he likes girls who are simple and all covered up, as his favorite quote reads,“Upar se thoda aur upar, neeche se thoda aur neeche.”
Obvioisly Sallu finds his new girl Katrina quite simple and that makes their bond special, Sallu says, “I love simple girls. Nice, simple, straight. I don’t like women who manipulate and scheme.”
Ask Sallu about marriage and he gets philosophical and says, “If you ask my personal opinion, of course, I consider marriage important. There are different reasons and ways one would get married. It could be for love, romance or it could be for children. I would want to marry for children.”
We would definitely love to see you getting married Sallu.

MJ’s death was homicide, concludes coroner

The Los Angeles County coroner has reportedly concluded Michael Jackson's death was homicide.
The King of Pop, who was allegedly being treated for insomnia, had lethal levels of the strong anaesthetic Propofol in his body when he died, according to court papers.
Details of the coroners' findings were revealed when a search warrant affidavit was made public in Texas, reports the Sun.
Investigators have quizzed the team of doctors who treated Jackson, including his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who, though not named as a suspect, is at the centre of a manslaughter probe.
A search warrant affidavit for Murray in California read: "The Los Angeles Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner, Dr Sathyavagiswaran, indicated that he had reviewed the preliminary toxicology results and his preliminary assessment of Jackson's cause of death was due to lethal levels of propofol (diprivan)."
The affidavit apparently revealed that Murray told LAPD detectives he had been giving the singer propofol as part of his treatment for insomnia, and feared the star was becoming addictedto the drug.
But Murray, who has denied any wrong doing, reportedly gave Jackson a lower dosage of propofol on the morning of his death after several other drugs failed to work.
Jackson died aged 50 from an apparent cardiac arrest at his rented LA mansion on June 25.

Extreme reactions on ‘Kaminey’

The opinions on ‘Kaminey’ are divided - either people have liked the film or hated it. But not many are aware that Vishal Bhardwaj, its creator, was well aware that the 40 + age-group wouldn't take to the film, much before its release. "We had test screenings in several cities, before the release. The reactions were pretty uniform, with the youth [18 to 30] loving the film and the middle-age segment [40 +] hating it. That's when I realized that the opinions would be in extremes," Vishal admits.
A lot of people feel that they failed to decipher the initial 20 minutes of the film. "That's true! I got the same feedback. The next time I would ensure that I simplify things," he states. Not many are aware that the start of the film was altered after the test screenings. The film began with a war in Africa and shifted to Shahid Kapoor running on the tracks. But the response to the war sequences was outright negative, so the editor suggested that Vishal change the start to Shahid running on the tracks.
Meanwhile, Vishal is all set to start work on his next film, this time with Hrithik Roshan in the principal lead. "This is the first time I am confirming the news. Yes, Hrithik and I are working together. The project will roll once Hrithik is through with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Guzaarish’. In the meantime, I am wondering if I should make another film in the intervening period," Vishal divulges.
What about ‘Ishqiya’? When is it releasing? "Oh, I've got tremendous feedback for the first promo of the film. In fact, people tell me ki ISHQIYA ka trailer aapki picture [Kaminey] se behtar hain [chuckles]... Well, looking at the number of releases in the coming weeks, I haven't decided on a release date yet. We've already completed the film and are in the post-production stages right now," Vishal reveals.

Though Deepika Padukone debuted with Shahrukh Khan with ‘Om Shanti Om’, she expressed her desire to work with his rival Salman Khan. She said that she would love to work with Salman Khan.

Yuvraj Singh, Kim Sharma reviving love

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actress Kim Sharma are renewing their love and mending their lost relationship. The duo has been spotted together at the popular suburban Mumbai café hanging around. Both seemed to be very comfortable in each other’s company and they seemed to be in a relaxed mood and looked happy reviving their love which went sour for some reasons.
A source narrates the sight, “Yuvraj Singh drove his car around the popular suburban Mumbai cafe a few times before him stepping out and entering it. He then entered the cafe only a couple of minutes before his on-and-off girlfriend Kim arrived in a chauffeur-driven car. The two were seen chatting over endless cups of coffee. While they seemed quite comfortable with each other, onlookers sensed that the two were consciously maintaining a distance from each other.”
Our source continues, “It looked like the couple was consciously trying to be discreet in public, so they stayed at an arm’s length from each other. When it was time to leave, however, Yuvi held Kim’s hand and walked her to his car and took her on a drive, while Kim’s car followed them around.”
Well, we can say that Yuvraj Singh is no longer the most desirable bachelor.

Sikandar: Guns over roses

Love and tenderness during times of distress, stress and terrorism... A still from Sikandar More Pics
Piyush Jha’s film goes down that dark and treacherous road with a gentle grace, echoing the leisurely pace of a people whose lives once were tranquil.
Now the sound of bombs and guns breaks the serene quietude of the Valley, reminding us that paradise is on the verge of being lost.
Welcome to paradise lost.
Jha keeps his narrative purposely intimate. The characters seem more representative of the moral and ethnic conflicts that colour the verdancy than make strong socio-political statements on the plight of the violent Valley.
Wisely the narrative picks two talented children to play the protagonists. Parzaan Dastur (the cute little Sardarji from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) plays a gawky adolescent wannabe footballer who, for reasons that appear more circumstantial than metaphoric, keeps getting repeatedly hit in the head by the football, nozzles, hands and feet.
Head start?
Ayesha Kapoor (her startling turn as the blind and mute girl in Black still fresh in our minds) is the prematurely mature and quiet, thoughtful Nasreen. Veiled and tragic, carrying her schoolbag like an existential burden, she walks the coniferous splendour with a quiet restlessness.
There aren’t too many characters in this portable epic. The politicians, terrorists and maulavis form a muffled circle of cleaned-out conflict, and that suits the film’s purposes fine as long as the drama doesn’t get diluted.
Sadly, the reservoir of resonances and echoes gets progressively smothered in the will to create a neat twist at the end of the tale that would work in A Wednesday, but not in a film that purports to draw a line of morality between terrorists and civilians in the Kashmir Valley.
Still, the stillness that surrounds the scenic splendour of Sikandar is never compromised. The director is discernibly in love with Kashmir though not to the extent of dwarfing the character when juxtaposed against the immense natural beauty of the Valley. Somak Mukherjee’s camera kisses the valleys and streams without getting servile and soppy.
The two child actors are natural as far as the unnatural disturbances guiding the plot allow them to be. Sanjay Suri as the deceptively suave politician smiles mysteriously through an under-written role. Madhavan amply and intelligently fills the very limited space offered to him play the fence-walking army-man. Arunoday Singh as the not-so-reluctant terrorist had a watchable screen presence.
But somewhere in tis short and sweet look at a paradise-subverted you miss that elevating quality which defines socio-political reality in cinematic terms. Nonetheless Sikandar is a sensitive and gentle depiction of life in an idyllic place where guns have overpowered the roses.
