Son excited for Akki’s Blue
Akshay Kumar’s son Aarav is quite excited about his dad’s upcoming flick Blue, where Akki plays a champion swimmer who is always underwater hunting for treasure.A source says, “Akshay knows Aarav will be kicked by the idea of his dad playing a champion swimmer and that too named Aarav after his son. In Aarav’s eyes, Akshay is the true hero. To watch his dad play a man of dubious morals and grey aspirations would be a new experience for Aarav.”
Director of Blue, Anthony talking about Akki’s screen name in Blue says, “It’s true, Akshay plays a man who thinks getting what he wants is more important than how you get there. I wrote the character for Akshay. He was to be called Akshay Malhotra. But then when I saw that Akshay had tattooed his son’s name on his back I decided to change the character’s name to Aarav.”
Akshay Kumar’s last negative role was in Khiladi 420.

Shahid saves Rakhi Sawant’s life

Trash talk Queen Miss. Sawant is mulling over Shahid Kapoor in her upcoming flick Dil Bole Hadippa. The reason behind all the hulla-gulla is that Shahid had saved her life during the shoot of a song sequence Discowale Kishko…
In an interview Rakhi stated, “Today I’m alive, and that is just because of Shahid. I was about to meet with a fatal accident when he came to my rescue.”
Elaborating on the incident she chirps, “I was standing near a light stand after the shoot of a dance sequence, when suddenly Shahid sipping his coffee came up to me. He just asked me to move aside and secured the light stand; I never noticed, but the stand was rickety and that light was almost dropping down on me, but thank god Shahid came in at the right time for my rescue.”
“He is a really nice guy and it was fun to work with him. I also enjoyed working with a big star like Rani Mukherjee, and also told her that I am a big fan of her,” she concludes.
Well we wonder with Rakhi so charmed by her new prince charming, what happens to the ‘chosen one’ Elesh.

Wake Up Sid should cross the boundaries of multiplex audiences:
Promos of ‘Wake Up Sid’ have made an instant impression and urban audiences have already been sold to the concept, mood, treatment and the flavor of this Karan Johar production. While it is pretty much clear that with ‘Wake Up Sid’, Bollywood would be seeing Dharma Productions’ first quintessential multiplex film, one wonders whether Karan Johar, director Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir Kapoor are also targeting single screens and smaller cities and towns for the film to make a wider impression.“See, time and again, we kind of tend to make a generalization and divide, that so and so film is only for multiplexes or for that matter single screen audiences. Yes, definitely the film is about the angst of urban youngsters, is reflective of their lifestyle and of course comes with associated demography perspective as well. But then that’s the world of Sid, so we have to present it that way. We have to show that in the promos and we can’t fool the audiences, right”, says Karan Johar who allowed Ayan Mukerjee a free hand in making the film.
As per Karan, the film is not just about the lead protagonist Sid but also his parents.
“The film also talks about the kind of dilemma that parents go through. They have a son at home who is almost grown up and neither can they take all decisions on his behalf nor can they allow him to be let loose. This brings in a quite a lot of emotional energy in the narrative of ‘Wake Up Sid’ as both sides of the stories are heard,” details Karan.
Coming back to the original question around the film being targeted at multiplex audiences, Karan agrees that ‘Wake Up Sid’ is being perceived as a quintessential multiplex film but in the meanwhile is also hoping that it goes beyond that as well.
“I am not just hoping but also quite positive that the film would cross the boundaries of multiplexes audiences”, he says, “The film has all the right ingredients of connecting with larger audiences. Yes, the visual content is such that ‘Wake Up Sid’ is being perceived as a multiplex film but the subject and the treatment is so strong that it would cut across all segments of audiences. All of us have been a Sid once in our growing up years and it won’t be difficult to see a part of us in story which is told through this film.”
Didn’t he ever contemplate having a non-English or a different title than ‘Wake Up Sid’?
Karan nods in agreement, “Yes, we did try to think of a title; something which could perhaps cater to a wider perspective. But then eventually ‘Wake Up Sid’ resonated with the world of Sid most and we stuck to it. We have it out in open now and it has to be seen how much it eventually manages to entice audiences once the film releases in theaters.”

Sallu doesn’t like Kat’s small skirts
A couple of months ago we bought to you a news, where a friend of Katrina complained that Salman never watches any of Kat’s movies while she watches his every movie. So when Salman was asked about the same in a recent interview, Salman says, “Yes I don’t. Once I saw she was wearing a really small skirt and I didn’t like it. But then you have to sometimes chill and let it go. And I don’t have a choice, and it’s better to stay away from those things. I mean I see the promos and get an idea of what is going to be in the film, so it’s better to stay away from that.”
Quiz him, whether he advises Katrina on her career, she says, “No, she’s a grown up girl. Initially I did, but after that you have to let them go. She’s good at making her own decision about choosing films and what to do. Earlier she used ask me check a couple of her scenes because of her dubbing but now I don’t do that. I don’t even go to any of her sets because there was this whole reputation that I land up on my girlfriend’s sets. I’ve been labelled and aggressive boyfriend, so I now I stay away from all that stuff.”
Well Salman will definitely watch Katrina’s upcoming flick Rajniti, I am sure, ‘coz she will be clad in crisp cotton sarees througout the movie.

Apart from the best actor, Aamir Khan’s ‘Taare Zameen Par’ has been nominated for best film and Shahrukh’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ for the category of best feature film for wholesome entertainment. Darsheel Safari of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ has been nominated for best child actor.Shahrukh and Aamir are highly expecting the award as they have not won the award earlier.Salman doesn’t like Katrina in sexy attire

Salman Khan might be very funny and lively person but when it comes to girlfriend Katrina Kaif, he is damn serious. He is a possessive boyfriend and avoids Katrina Kaif’s film for a simple reason because she wears sexy and small skirts in films.
Salman said that he once watched Katrina’s film and she was wearing a short skirt which he did not like and from then he has stopped watching her films. He even knows that he cannot every time interfere on her matter as it is her choice and the film demand. He said that he can make out from the film promo which one of her film to watch and which not. If he feels that it is liable to watch, he goes for it otherwise let it go.
Salman even revealed that Katrina Kaif used to ask him to check her dialogue during dubbing but now he has stopped doing so because he doesn’t want to be typecast as a violent boyfriend who every time interferes into girlfriend’s work. He added that earlier he used to guide Katrina regarding film selection but he has stopped now as she is grown up and can make her own decision.

`Wake Up Sid` not about handsome guy-plain Jane: Director

Mumbai: Debutant director Ayaan Mukherjee admits his `Wake Up Sid` is about a younger man dating an older woman but he is appalled by rumours that it revolves around a handsome guy and a not-so-good looking girl.
"All I can tell you is that this marketing pitch didn`t come from me or Karan (Johar). You think I`d dare to call my heroine, who I think is awesome, not good-looking?" Mukherjee asked angrily.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma, the romantic comedy is produced by Karan Johar and is scheduled for release Oct 2.
"It came from a Facebook `Wake Up Sid` fan club started on the website. Someone just saw Ranbir and Konkona together and decided to draw their own conclusions...To me Konkona is at the moment the most gorgeous woman I`ve met. In fact, my last shot was with her and I just couldn`t stop gawking," Mukherjee, who is actress Kajol`s cousin, told reporters.
So is "Wake Up Sid" about an older woman in love with a younger man?
"Yes, Konkona`s character Ayesha is a few years older than the guy. But it`s not `Summer Of 42`, please! Nor is the age difference concealed here as it was between Ranbir and Bipasha in `Bachna Ae Haseeno`. What happened was that we wrote in the age difference because I wanted only these two to be in my film.
"When I saw Ranbir in `Saawariya`, I knew this was my Sid. He was young, energetic and hungry to seize life. He was like me. You`ve to admit Ranbir and Konkona together are a pair that no one would imagine. I liked that challenge. And I also saw Konkona has been around in the industry longer than Ranbir. So I conveniently turned the character into a slightly older woman," Mukherjee said.
Ranbir`s dad Rishi Kapoor has done a very fine film about falling in love with an older woman called "Doosra Aadmi" where Raakhee Gulzar played the unusual love interest.
So doesn`t he plan to work with cousin Kajol?
"The thought didn`t strike me for my first film. I wrote `Wake Up Sid` as this young new-age `Dil Chahta Hai`. It`s about today`s youngsters. Kajol? Yeah. Maybe in my next film... if I`m allowed to make another film," he said.
At the moment Mukherjee is worried about how the audience would take to the title.
"But it had to be `Wake Up Sid`. It`s a wake-up call for this rather laidback hero who meets an unusual woman. It`s a real film with no lip-sync songs," he said.
The director was so sad on completion of his film that he got dead drunk.
"I`m very sad that it has ended. Now everyone will move away. It`s a heartbreaking process. I don`t know how Karan goes through it over and over again," Mukherjee said.

Shahid Kapoor’s jig throws male security guards in tizzy!
It was an evening to remember for the winners and audience present at the 12th Annual Rajiv Gandhi awards, and making it more memorable was newly crowned superstar Shahid Kapoor.Shahid Kapoor broke into an impromptus jig with his co-star Priyanka Chopra when she came down from the stage at the Dhan Ta Nen song from their recent super hit film Kaminey. Though this was just for a few seconds, the girls in the crowd descended on to the front row, giving a tizzy to the all male security guards, who were unable to handle the mobbing girls.
Mobbing is usually expected to be led by male fans, but with Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Charlie’ avatar gaining instant popularity with the girls, it’s them who end up leading the mobs. With women security usually missing at events it’s been left to his manager and publicist (both girls) to manage the unruly female attention.

Rani Mukherji’s passion for perfecting her cricketing skills

It’s now known by all that Rani Mukerji plays the role of a male cricketer in Dil Bole Hadippa. But not many are aware about Rani’s aim for perfecting the art of playing the game of cricket. It is learnt that she trained really hard for the game before beginning work on the film.
Our unit source revealed, “Rani actually started practicing the game a good six months before the film even went on the floors. The person who trained Rani to master the game is a well-known Indian cricket player, but her name is being kept under wraps since she doesn’t want people to know about her involvement in the film. The coach monitored Rani throughout her practice, and made sure that she perfected her shots well. Rani has been practicing the game wherever she traveled and has practiced on the grounds in Delhi and Punjab too.”
Well, whether Rani mastered her fours and sixes will be known only after the film releases. But for now, Rani’s current svelte figure is testimony enough that she has run across the pitch!
The film also stars Shahid Kapoor and Anupam Kher, with special appearances by Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra.

Salman likes simple girls
Salman Khan is a no nonsense guy and he likes girls who are simple and all covered up, as his favorite quote reads,“Upar se thoda aur upar, neeche se thoda aur neeche.”Obvioisly Sallu finds his new girl Katrina quite simple and that makes their bond special, Sallu says, “I love simple girls. Nice, simple, straight. I don’t like women who manipulate and scheme.”
Ask Sallu about marriage and he gets philosophical and says, “If you ask my personal opinion, of course, I consider marriage important. There are different reasons and ways one would get married. It could be for love, romance or it could be for children. I would want to marry for children.”
We would definitely love to see you getting married Sallu.

MJ’s death was homicide, concludes coroner
The Los Angeles County coroner has reportedly concluded Michael Jackson's death was homicide. The King of Pop, who was allegedly being treated for insomnia, had lethal levels of the strong anaesthetic Propofol in his body when he died, according to court papers.
Details of the coroners' findings were revealed when a search warrant affidavit was made public in Texas, reports the Sun.
Investigators have quizzed the team of doctors who treated Jackson, including his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who, though not named as a suspect, is at the centre of a manslaughter probe.
A search warrant affidavit for Murray in California read: "The Los Angeles Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner, Dr Sathyavagiswaran, indicated that he had reviewed the preliminary toxicology results and his preliminary assessment of Jackson's cause of death was due to lethal levels of propofol (diprivan)."
The affidavit apparently revealed that Murray told LAPD detectives he had been giving the singer propofol as part of his treatment for insomnia, and feared the star was becoming addictedto the drug.
But Murray, who has denied any wrong doing, reportedly gave Jackson a lower dosage of propofol on the morning of his death after several other drugs failed to work.
Jackson died aged 50 from an apparent cardiac arrest at his rented LA mansion on June 25.

Extreme reactions on ‘Kaminey’
The opinions on ‘Kaminey’ are divided - either people have liked the film or hated it. But not many are aware that Vishal Bhardwaj, its creator, was well aware that the 40 + age-group wouldn't take to the film, much before its release. "We had test screenings in several cities, before the release. The reactions were pretty uniform, with the youth [18 to 30] loving the film and the middle-age segment [40 +] hating it. That's when I realized that the opinions would be in extremes," Vishal admits.A lot of people feel that they failed to decipher the initial 20 minutes of the film. "That's true! I got the same feedback. The next time I would ensure that I simplify things," he states. Not many are aware that the start of the film was altered after the test screenings. The film began with a war in Africa and shifted to Shahid Kapoor running on the tracks. But the response to the war sequences was outright negative, so the editor suggested that Vishal change the start to Shahid running on the tracks.
Meanwhile, Vishal is all set to start work on his next film, this time with Hrithik Roshan in the principal lead. "This is the first time I am confirming the news. Yes, Hrithik and I are working together. The project will roll once Hrithik is through with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Guzaarish’. In the meantime, I am wondering if I should make another film in the intervening period," Vishal divulges.
What about ‘Ishqiya’? When is it releasing? "Oh, I've got tremendous feedback for the first promo of the film. In fact, people tell me ki ISHQIYA ka trailer aapki picture [Kaminey] se behtar hain [chuckles]... Well, looking at the number of releases in the coming weeks, I haven't decided on a release date yet. We've already completed the film and are in the post-production stages right now," Vishal reveals.

Yuvraj Singh, Kim Sharma reviving love

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actress Kim Sharma are renewing their love and mending their lost relationship. The duo has been spotted together at the popular suburban Mumbai café hanging around. Both seemed to be very comfortable in each other’s company and they seemed to be in a relaxed mood and looked happy reviving their love which went sour for some reasons.
A source narrates the sight, “Yuvraj Singh drove his car around the popular suburban Mumbai cafe a few times before him stepping out and entering it. He then entered the cafe only a couple of minutes before his on-and-off girlfriend Kim arrived in a chauffeur-driven car. The two were seen chatting over endless cups of coffee. While they seemed quite comfortable with each other, onlookers sensed that the two were consciously maintaining a distance from each other.”
Our source continues, “It looked like the couple was consciously trying to be discreet in public, so they stayed at an arm’s length from each other. When it was time to leave, however, Yuvi held Kim’s hand and walked her to his car and took her on a drive, while Kim’s car followed them around.”
Well, we can say that Yuvraj Singh is no longer the most desirable bachelor.

Sikandar: Guns over roses
Piyush Jha’s film goes down that dark and treacherous road with a gentle grace, echoing the leisurely pace of a people whose lives once were tranquil.
Now the sound of bombs and guns breaks the serene quietude of the Valley, reminding us that paradise is on the verge of being lost.
Welcome to paradise lost.
Jha keeps his narrative purposely intimate. The characters seem more representative of the moral and ethnic conflicts that colour the verdancy than make strong socio-political statements on the plight of the violent Valley.
Wisely the narrative picks two talented children to play the protagonists. Parzaan Dastur (the cute little Sardarji from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) plays a gawky adolescent wannabe footballer who, for reasons that appear more circumstantial than metaphoric, keeps getting repeatedly hit in the head by the football, nozzles, hands and feet.
Head start?
Ayesha Kapoor (her startling turn as the blind and mute girl in Black still fresh in our minds) is the prematurely mature and quiet, thoughtful Nasreen. Veiled and tragic, carrying her schoolbag like an existential burden, she walks the coniferous splendour with a quiet restlessness.
There aren’t too many characters in this portable epic. The politicians, terrorists and maulavis form a muffled circle of cleaned-out conflict, and that suits the film’s purposes fine as long as the drama doesn’t get diluted.
Sadly, the reservoir of resonances and echoes gets progressively smothered in the will to create a neat twist at the end of the tale that would work in A Wednesday, but not in a film that purports to draw a line of morality between terrorists and civilians in the Kashmir Valley.
Still, the stillness that surrounds the scenic splendour of Sikandar is never compromised. The director is discernibly in love with Kashmir though not to the extent of dwarfing the character when juxtaposed against the immense natural beauty of the Valley. Somak Mukherjee’s camera kisses the valleys and streams without getting servile and soppy.
The two child actors are natural as far as the unnatural disturbances guiding the plot allow them to be. Sanjay Suri as the deceptively suave politician smiles mysteriously through an under-written role. Madhavan amply and intelligently fills the very limited space offered to him play the fence-walking army-man. Arunoday Singh as the not-so-reluctant terrorist had a watchable screen presence.
But somewhere in tis short and sweet look at a paradise-subverted you miss that elevating quality which defines socio-political reality in cinematic terms. Nonetheless Sikandar is a sensitive and gentle depiction of life in an idyllic place where guns have overpowered the roses.

Muslim groups protest outside Salman’s house
Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s comment about Shahrukh Khan’s detention did not go well with some Muslim groups and they protested outside Salman Khan’s house demanding an apology from the actor. Salman commented that Shahrukh’s detention is not a big deal and many people flying to America have to go through such questioning and security process and so there need not to make any hue and cry about the matter.A few Muslim groups felt Salman’s comment about King Khan was insulting. In protest, the Muslim gathered outside Salman’s house and demanded apology from the actor. They felt that at this crucial juncture when majority of Muslims are being treated as terrorists in US, Salman should have stand behind Shahrukh forgetting his personal bitterness. They even added that it is a matter of great concern for the entire Muslim community and the two stars need to forget their personal rivalry and come together.
Ironically, they were the same Muslim groups that accused Shahrukh Khan of making an unparliamentary comment against the Prophet in the Time N Style magazine and issue a fatwa.

Best Bollywood Film at Oscars
Bollywood News : Hindus have asked the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to introduce a new award category of “Best Bollywood Film” for films made in India.Rajan Zed, a leader of the Indian American community here, said in a statement that India had the largest film industry in the world and thus it deserved at least one category in Oscars where its movies could compete among themselves. This gesture would bring more credibility to Oscars also in the international arena, as it was long overdue.
He further said that cinema in India, based in Mumbai and various regional centers, reportedly produced much more films and drew much larger audience globally than Hollywood (which released only 610 movies in 2008).
It was, therefore, unfair for such an influential cinema not to have its own category at Oscars. Foreign Language Film Award at Oscars, where only one picture was accepted from each country, did not do justice to such a large industry, Zed added.
Academy, launched in 1927 and dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of motion pictures, has over 6,000 artists and professionals as honorary members, including actors like Jack Nicholson, directors like Steven Spielberg, executives like Steve Jobs, musicians like Elton John and writers like Ruth Prawer Jhabvala etc.
Located in Beverly Hills, (California), the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host the 82nd Academy Awards on March 7, 2010.

Saif and Kareena in bed
Audience might have read and heard real life couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s love tale several times but for the first time they will be seen making love on-screen in Rensil D’Silva’s ‘Kurbaan’. Rensil now worried that Saif and Kareena’s steamy bed scene might not drive all the attention and his film will go without appreciation.“A section of the audience might decide to see the film only to see the real-life couple making love on screen. It would be tragic,” Rensil has been quoted as saying. It was heard that the duo was so comfortable in doing the intimate scene that they did not require prior rehearsal, one take and they gave the perfect shot.
Rensil cannot avoid the scene as it was an integral part of the story. While shooting the intimate scene only a handful of people was allowed and others were asked to leave. The kissing between the two was not only too passionate but also too lengthy that Bollywood ever had.
However, Rensil did not deny that the kiss was long but claimed that he did not measure the duration. ‘Kurbaan’ is a story of terrorism and Kareena is playing Saif’s wife.

BOLLYWOOD babe Sophie Chaudhary has confessed she shared an "electric sexual chemistry" with Peter Andre when they met shortly after his split from Jordan. The beauty, who was pictured arm-in-arm with the Aussie singer at an Indian film awards ceremony in June, also admitted she lusted after him.
Meanwhile, photos have emerged of the actress looking stunning in a series of provocative shots of her in skimpy underwear.
The rumour mill went into overdrive when Pete, 36, was spotted with Sophie at the swanky awards do in Macau, China.
Happy families ... Peter Andre and the kids on the boat

But the reality TV star has insisted he's been completely celibate since he broke up with Jordan, real name Katie Price, in May.
He also said he intends to stay that way until their divorce comes through, although he admitted last week that he was now regretting making that vow.
UK-born Sophie has now confessed the couple shared an electric sexual chemistry but added that they couldn't get together because she would never date a married man.
Meanwhile, Pete - whose single Behind Closed Doors went in at number 4 in Sunday's charts - has been busy playing the dutiful dad, taking his kids out to Brighton marina today.
The singer took Princess Tiaamii, two, Junior, four and step-son Harvey, seven, out on a boat to enjoy the sunshine.
Jordan had stopped Harvey from featuring in her estranged husband's reality show, Peter Andre: Going It Alone, which aired last night on ITV2.
She said she did it to protect her eldest son, rather than in bitterness towards Pete.
But Pete looked like he was as tight-knit as ever with his brood as he played on the fairground rides with them before taking to the water.

Katrina Turcotte
In a recent interview to a Mumbai tabloid, Ayesha Shroff said that Katrina Kaif is a fictitious name that they concocted for the British born actress.Katrina Kaif has been tom-tomming around town that her mother is British and her father is Kashmiri which is why she has the Indian surname and is sort-of Indian in her appearance (the raven hair especially).Ayesha Shroff, who gave Katrina Kaif her big Bollywood break in 2003 in the form of , said that Katrina’s real name is Katrina Turquotte and that is what it was on her passport at the time of in 2003. Obviously it looked and read very British and was hard to pronounce for Indian audiences, which is why they changed it to Kaif. Kazi was an option but they didn’t agree on that because of the religious overtone.A source gave us some more masala on Katrina. “She used to work to support her huge family and she didn’t have a very respectable job in London. Kaizad Gustad picked up the very attractive lass off the streets of London. The makers of concocted the Kashmir father-Brit mother story so that Indian audiences would accept her. When she came to India, she got friendly with Salman Khan and his family, which worked very well in her favour as her recommended her to directors and producers. It is amazing how she has lied all this while that she is an Indian girl because she absolutely isn’t. She may be very coy, classy and prim-and-propah now but her behavior on the sets of was nothing like that or like a well-behaved Indian girl. She was more comfortable being sexy then but now she wants to dress up from head-to-toe.”He adds, “Now she is an inspirational icon as she opened doorways for wannabe actresses in India by establishing herself. What she has achieved is commendable in spite of the cultural and language barriers. Katrina has learnt Hindi, Bollywood dancing and her acting has also improved. She adds to the glamour of films. With her bangin’ bod and gorgeous face, she makes it work.”We are wondering how Katrina, who has hoodwinked the country, can be called the Indian likeness of a Barbie because she isn’t Indian at all. We wonder what other skeletons will come out of the closet with time?

Shilpa slams stores for black marketing masks
Bollywood Gossip : Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has blasted stores that are selling masks at ‘three times’ the price when the swine flu situation in many parts of the country is ‘grave’.‘Three days ago I scurried to buy myself a mask wanting to use it at the airport. Imagine my dismay at learning masks were out of stock at the medical stores but are being sold at three times the cost by some unscrupulous stores,’ Shilpa Shetty posted on her blog shilpashettylive.com/blog Friday morning.
‘It’s insane that people could think of capitalising on such grave situations. I finally procured mine from my dentist where I had an appointment yesterday,’ she added.
The actress was leaving for the Mumbai airport to catch a flight to New York, where she is a guest at the ‘Grand Marshal for the Independence Day Parade’, which will happen Sunday.
‘Indeed a proud moment, considering the 1st Grand Marshall was Raj Kapoor. It’s endearing to know that every year NRIs congregate in huge numbers to celebrate the fact that they are proud Indians. Hope I add to their joy,’ she wrote.

Bollywood Khans react to King Khan’s ordeal
Bollywood Gossip : After the incident of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was detained at Newark airport for a security check, many Bollywood stars like Zayed Khan and Irrfan Khan have come out with the ordeals they faced in the US because of their last names. This is what they have to say:Zayed Khan: Of course, we Khans go through this kind of humiliation all the time. I’ve gone through it, Salman has gone through it. I’m glad people are talking about it because of Shah Rukh. There have been times when I’ve been with 17 people in a team on tour or for a shooting in the US. Out of these only one gets detained at the airport. Guess who invariably gets detained? And some Caucasian bully, who does these checkings by the book and thinks all Khans are terrorists, will tell you it’s a random check. Tell me, how can there be random checks on five US airports one after another and in all of them only yours truly gets detained for additional checking? I think there’s a big difference between being secure and being ignorant.
Iqbal Khan (TV actor): Such attacks on Khans is nothing new. These things happen at American airports. It’s time for all Muslims to let everyone know Islam means believing in God and in peace. It’s happened to me. Once I was to go to the US for a show, I was the only one who didn’t get a visa. And I was the only Muslim. However recently I applied again and I got a 10-year multiple entry visa.
Shabina Khan (dress designer): I really don’t know what happened with Shah Rukh in the US. But I definitely get into issues at the airport thanks to my surname. It’s annoying. It’s scary.
Kabir Khan (director): I was accompanying my wife in the US along with the Morani Brothers. It was a flight from LA to Washington just 15 days after 9/11. So the fear and paranoia were not totally unjustified. We were waiting for the flight to take off talking to each other in Hindi when some passengers complained that we were talking in a ’strange’ language. Within no time two burly FBI agents came on board and took me and my co-passengers to the front of the plane. When they got to know my name, they questioned me for more than two hours, googled my name for terrorist links and then finally allowed me to fly.
They asked me if I had been to Pakistan. I told them no. If I had told them that I had been to Afghanistan, they’d have freaked out. Two other passengers on board refused to fly with us. So they were asked to deboard. So you see post 9/11 persecution comes with its inbuilt safety measures. But I honestly think a part of the global fear is justified. We can’t blame people for being paranoid after what has happened.
Irrfan Khan: More than the physical torture, it’s the wounds of humiliation that never heal after you undergo such a horrific experience. It happened to me on two occasions. I was detained in New York and Los Angeles airport for secondary interrogation. I was outraged. I was told to quietly come into a room for questioning and identification verification. I wasn’t allowed to talk. When I tried to ask why I was being treated this way, I was told to keep quiet. I wasn’t allowed to use my phone. They said, ‘No, you just sit down.’ All because my name was Irrfan Khan. You can’t argue or rationalise.
On a second occasion this time in New York, when I was detained I blew my top. I told this big Black American guy, ‘Please clear the confusion about my identity once and for all. Or don’t provide me with a visa. I don’t want to come back to the US.’ The guy wanted to know if it was a threat. I was taken aback. Mira Nair had to intervene. She advised me to never counter-question them. This is the free spirit of America. This 90-minute detention changed me completely. Can you imagine what a 90-day detention can do to an innocent man thrown into jail?
Dilip Kumar: After hearing these atrocious accounts who wants to travel to such a stupid place when our beautiful India offers Kashmir’s jannat and Kerala’s luminous glory? God forbid, if we have to go to such a country.
Eijaaz Khan (TV actor): I’ve gone through similar experiences a couple of times in the US. While all my friends breezed through immigration I was questioned and had to give the address I was staying at, and for how long. My whereabouts were even checked by them later. This was after 9/11. I guess this kind of treatment is to be expected by us Khans. We’ve to take it in our stride.

At 43, Salman Khan still gets beaten up by mom
Bollywood Gossip : Salman Khan has often made headlines for getting into verbal and physical fights, but very few know that the 43-year-old Bollywood star still gets beaten up by his mother Salma.‘As a child, Salman was very naughty He used to get the most beating…still does,’ Salma told choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan on her soon-to-be-launched celebrity chat show ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’ going on air on STAR Plus Sunday.
When Farah asked ‘Is it just a pat?’, Salman Khan, who was the first celebrity guest for the show, said: ‘Are you mad or what? It comes as such a phatak (tight slap)…I reel under its heavy impact and wonder where it came from! I tell her that how can you beat me mamma, I’m a grown up man now.’
Some of the actor’s best kept secrets were also unravelled on the show. For instance, she revealed that she still stays up waiting for him at the window till he returns home. Salma said that all her kids tease her for this habit.

I don’t feel like stepping on US soil: Shahrukh
After his “ordeal” at the hands of immigration officials at the Newark airport, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has said he does not feel like stepping on American soil anymore but ruled out seeking an apology for the incident, which was denied by US officials. Driving straight to the venue of a function at the luxury Trump Taj Mahal hotel in Atlantic City in tattered jeans, a white T-shirt, a brownish coat and a muffler since his baggage was yet to arrive, Khan told the audience that he was ‘treated shabbily’ just because he ‘happened to have Khan as my last name’.Profusely apologising to his fans for arriving two hours late at the casino city of New Jersey for a function, King Khan stunned the large number of Indian-Americans when he told them that he does not feel like stepping on the American soil any more, but it is the love and affection of millions of his fans in the US which would bring him to this country again and again.Sharing his “ordeal” which he underwent as he landed at the Newark International Liberty Airport on a British Airways flight, with his fans, the 43-year-old actor said he was grilled by immigration officials.
“It was very unprofessional of the airport security staff of not allowing me to use my cell phone to contact my local organisers,” he told the audience, who were literally taken aback by what they heard from their superstar.

Aishwarya saves Hrithik a date!
Aishwarya was down with fever and could have done with a day off. But out of consideration for co-star Hrithik Roshan, she slogged through the day, instead of resting while shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish. Apparently, she didn’t want Hrithik to waste his dates.Despite being sick, she was asked to report to the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish and she did not throw any tantrums. The unit expected her to report a bit late, but she arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time.
A unit member said, “Aishwarya was down with fever for two days. She carried on shooting despite her poor health to make it convenient for Hrithik as it was the last two days of his first schedule and she didn’t want to waste his dates.”

Saif Ali Khan turns 39
Looking like a lean, mean machine, Saif Ali Khan fresh from the success of his latest film, is positively pre-occupied. Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. “This is the biggest hit in my 20-year-old career,’’ he says, “but I’m very grounded because somewhere at the back of my mind I have these niggling thoughts about the law of averages catching up. All that blah on ‘what goes up must come down’. Absolutely unperturbed by the mixed reactions to his film, Saif says, “There are some people who didn’t like the film. Earlier on it would have bothered me since this is my first production. But I think overall you have to understand that this medium is open to criticism and people must be allowed to express their opinion. Now I can take the barbs on my chin. To make everyone happy is a tough call. And to critics who felt Jab We Met — director Imtiaz Ali’s earlier project with Kareena Kapoor — was better, Saif says, “I myself loved JWM when I saw it for the second time. It was a younger, very entertaining film that dealt with two people who ran away from home and found each other. My film is like an older wine. It is different.’’ He’s spending his birthday with Kareena in the US. Is there something special he’d like tomorrow?
Yes, I have given my list of electronic toys to people who are close to me,’’ he says. At 39, Saif is still a boy at heart, and films apart, toys and a certain Ms. KK do make his world go around.

Shahrukh Khan was allowed one phone call
The Bollywood Badshah, who flew to the US on the night of August 13 to participate in a Meet-and-Greet with the NRI fraternity in Chicago and Houston for Independence Day, was in for a rude shock when he was detained by the US airport authorities at the Newark Airport for close to two hours. Reliable sources say that King Khan was reportedly held in the immigration detention area and repeatedly questioned. The reasons on why such an unfortunate incident happened with the biggest Indian actor is still to be ascertained. News has it that Indian/Pakistani travellers at the airport recognised the actor and kept yelling for him. However, the foreign officials weren’t exactly paying heed.News also has it that after an hour-and-a-half, SRK was allowed one phone call to the Indian Embassy. The actor was released after Indian authorities intervened in the matter. SRK’s closest friend Karan Johar, who woke up yesterday to the news of the actor’s detention, is shocked to say the least. Ironically, they spent some time in the US lately making Karan’s next film My Name Is Khan.SRK spoke to me earlier. He is saddened by the unfortunate incident. As a member of his family all I can say is that I’m upset that this had to happen to a man of Shah Rukh’s stature, achievement and credibility.
He is a global icon and it is sad that on the occasion of the Indian Independence Day, the country’s biggest actor was interrogated especially when he had flown in to celebrate the occasion with the NRI fraternity,” said Karan. News of Shah Rukh’s run with US airport authorities created shock waves in Bollywood.

PERFECT MOVIE FOR AWARD
'Kaminey'is the first perfect movie made in the recent times. So, it deserves award. Since it belongs to the director, the credit goes to Vishal Bhardwaj. The movie is perfect in all respects. It has action, emotion, drama, suspense, political ambitions, drug mafia linked with the well crafted and executed story of twin brothers. It's bold, stark, funny and unpredictable, which is the success mantra of movie. Vishal Bhardwaj not only gives a crackling screenplay, but also smart one-liners.His cameos stay even after the curtain falls. Priyanka's drunken seduction act, where she declares she loves Guddu more than Mumbai, Chennai, and Thiruvanthapuram is an example. Similar are Amole Gupte and Chandan Roy's childish capers with the gun as Bope and Tope. Shahid's `Fiderman' dance is very impressive. The movie's story is of twins - Charlie and Guddu (both played by Shahid Kapoor in double role). They have just the opposite traits.
If Guddu with stammering prefers to live the right way as a goal-oriented, peace-loving, non-violent common man, then Charlie, with the speech problem , wants to get quick rich. Similarly, Guddu is quiet and shy, Charlie is the rough and tough type. They never meet until they cross each other on a rainy night, and fall into wrong hands. While Charlie gets mixed up in a deathly get-rich-quick scheme, Guddu realises that the love of his life, Sweety has unwittingly put a price on his head!
Their lives collide with the lives of gangsters, rebel soldiers, rogue politicians and crooked cops. Thus, they are left to protect themselves and their dreams. They realize that they need each other at this juncture. Guddu needs Charlie to complete his love story with Sweety (Priyanka Chopra), sister of Marathi politician (Amole Gupte) and Charlie needs Guddu to fulfill his dreams to get quick rich. In the meantime, both earn the ire of their enemies. Guddu is troubled by rabid leader who cannot see his sister settling down with a non-Maharashtrian and Charlie enrages not only the crooked cops but an entire gang of drug smugglers headed by the wily Tashi (Tenzing Nima).
From here onwards, the story takes a dramatic turn and we soon realize why it's titled 'Kaminey'. Interestingly, the background music of popular song 'Dhan Te Nan', which is a sort of anthem of the movie, fillips the story that starts moving too fast as not to let you skip even a single scene. One has to be on the edge of one's seat to be aware of every goings-on and also the twists leading towards the end.
Acting-wise, Shahid Kapur seems to be touching the zenith by bringing live two completely different characters. Priyanka Chopra has performed first rate by reinventing from glamour to the earthy girl. Amole Gupte, scriptwriter of the 'Taare Zameen Par' fame makes a memorable impact as the wily neta who is ready to sell his ideology of Maharashtra only for Maharashtrians for the sake of big money. Chandan Roy Sanyal though new to the industry will be remembered as Mikhail, Charlie's gangster buddy. Tassaduq Hussain creates a whole new playground for criminals, thugs and goons by his superb cinematography. Each and every scene is memorable. In fact, it's difficult to find a flaw as the camera goes on a hitherto unexplored journey in Indian cinema.

Preview: Vishal Bharadwaj’s dark comedy ‘Kaminey’ hits theatres
Mumbai: Critically-acclaimed director, Vishal Bharadwaj is back with dark drama ‘Kaminey’. Releasing this Friday, the Shahid Kapur-Priyanka Chopra starrer is all about gangsters, rebels and dishonest cops.Though the release of `Kaminey` has been postponed in Mumbai due to the swine-flu scare, that will not impact its quarterly earnings figures, says the producer of the film.
This will be Bharadwaj’s second film of dark genre after the super successful ‘Omkara’.
The initial rushes and songs of the film have already created an unprecedented buzz among audiences and with a healthy round of eleventh hour promotions going on, ‘Kaminey’ has gathered just enough momentum for its release.
The movie has been heating up the ticket counters since Sunday in terms of bookings and insiders claim it is going to be the next superhit of the year.
The film revolves around twins - Charlie and Guddu - both played by Shahid. They are as different as chalk and cheese and can`t stand the sight of each other till one fateful rainy night their lives cross.
Charlie gets mixed up in a deathly get-rich-quick scheme, while Guddu realises that the love of his life, Sweety, has unwittingly put a price on his head.
It`s a dark comic ride thereon and their lives collide with the lives of gangsters, rogue politicians and crooked cops. In the middle of this crazy adventure, the brothers have to run to protect themselves, their dreams, their love.... And most importantly, realise that all they have is each other.
Produced and distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, the film has been written and directed by Bharadwaj. Shahid plays a double role for the first time and it also has writer-director Amol Gupte making his on-screen debut.
Industry sources reveal that the movie is made at a budget of around Rs35 crore (Rs350 million) and is releasing worldwide with around 1,100 prints and an `A` certificate.
"`Kaminey` is an important film for me as I have tried many new things in it. For the first time I am playing a double role and I`m trying something different from a love story. In fact, this is also the first commercial film of Vishal Bharadwaj," said Shahid.
Distributors are also positive about the film.
